Within the dark arts of comic book pressing, removing a spine roll is, without a doubt, the most satisfying benefit of the entire process. Below is one of the best examples of what my pressing process can achieve.
This Superman #6 exemplified the horrors of a spine roll! The spine roll was so severe that CGC would not encapsulate the comic book. I’m unsure as to the exact reason; I’d guess that due to either the comic book becoming too wide to fit within the CGC slab’s inner well or perhaps the fanned pages making it unsafe for storage within the inner well. Whatever the reason, for CGC to grade and encapsulate this Superman #6 the spine roll needed to be removed or reduced in severity.
Fear not, for I successfully pressed the spine roll out of existence! Additionally, there was some insect or rat chew along the rolled spine so by removing the spine roll, the chew damage became less obvious as it would become visible only when looking at the back of the comic book. Not only did pressing this Superman #6 increase its grade and eye appeal significantly, but pressing saved the comic book from further degradation.
